The Art-Net protocol is an Art-Net-based lighting control protocol developed by Artistic Licence Engineering in 1998 and made available royalty-free. Its core function is to encapsulate traditional DMX512 data into UDP packets for transmission over standard Art-Net networks, thereby breaking through the limitations of DMX512 in transmission distance, bandwidth, and networking capability.
Art-Net acts as the ultimate bridge between DMX512 and Art-Net. Traditional DMX512 uses the RS-485 physical layer, which is limited to a maximum transmission distance of approximately 300 meters per link and only 512 channels in a single direction. In contrast, Art-Net leverages Art-Net to increase the channel count per link to 32,768 universes (each carrying 512 channels), supporting a theoretical total exceeding 16 million channels.

A: No. Both support automatic mode switching. They run online Art-Net when connected to a network and automatically fall back to SD card standalone playback when the network is unavailable. However, the A608 allows direct on-site configuration via its touchscreen, while the screenless A308 requires Magic Player software for initial configuration.
